The boundaries of tiles of a volume hierarchic substitution tiling consist either of line segments, or of fractally shaped pieces (or both). Arcs or other smooth curves are not possible. Here, all tilings of the encyclopedia are shown where the boundary of the tiles consist of line segments only. In other words: all prototiles are polygons.
